Transforming the Save Girls' Sports Issue
Timeline of our progress
Family Policy Alliance has been at the center of this fight since we first sounded the alarm in 2016. State by state, year by year, we have worked alongside our Family Policy Council partners to keep women's sports for women only.

Family Policy Alliance sounds the alarm
Long before the issue dominated headlines, Family Policy Alliance saw what was coming and began warning state leaders that girls' sports were at risk. We started building the case, equipping allies, and preparing the model legislation that would later become the blueprint for protecting female athletes.

The first state acts — with FPA at the table
Idaho passes the Fairness in Women's Sports Act, becoming the first state in the nation to reserve girls' and women's school sports for female athletes. Family Policy Alliance worked alongside our ally in Idaho to make that first victory possible.

A movement spreads
Eight more states enact protections in a single legislative session, turning Idaho's lone bill into a national model. In state after state, Family Policy Alliance and our network of Family Policy Councils helped draft, advance, and pass these laws.

The issue reaches the Supreme Court
After years of state-level action led by Family Policy Alliance and our allies, Idaho and West Virginia ask the Supreme Court to uphold their Fairness in Women's Sports laws. States also extend protections to college athletics.

A Supreme Court win and a national standard
With the Supreme Court upholding state protections and a majority of states safeguarding female athletes, attention turns to federal policy, athletic association rules, and closing remaining gaps. Family Policy Alliance remains at the center of this fight — because this has been our issue from the start.
